Ladies and gentleman, the wait is finally over. With a little more than a month to go before the festivities officially get under way, it is high time we announced the last batch of international talent confirmed to perform at Audioriver ’10. So, without further ado, Metro Area, Anthony Rother, Spor and Gerd Janson will all be gracing the picturesque beach in Plock on the first weekend of August.
A place in Rolling Stone’s list of Top 50 Albums of 2002, album of the year according to BBC Radio 1, and debut of the year at the American Dance Awards in 2003 are just a few of the honorary mentions Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani received after releasing their seminal, self-titled debut album. Needless to say the duo also managed to win over literally a legion of disco and house heads the world over in the meantime. And let’s not forget about their stunning ‘Fabric’ mix released in 2008. Oh, and did we mention that the guys are responsible for the best track of the 00’s according to Resident Advisor?
While on the topic of quality house and disco, the man behind the hotly tipped Running Back label and one of the residents of Frankfurt’s legendary Robert Johnson club, Gerd Janson, just can’t go unmentioned. “Created by people with passion who, instead of treating us with worn, and often lacking in quality, new tracks, prefer to dig a little deeper in their record library and dust off lesser known, or long forgotten, goodies” is what Sound Revolt had to say about Gerd’s installment of the ‘Live at Robert Johnson’ series recorded in conjunction with Thomas Hammann. And few will disagree. Known worldwide for his everything but run of the mill track selection, Janson is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and underrated DJs on the circuit at present. Need more proof? Then check out his mix CD for Sonar Kollektiv.
Moving on, Anthony Rother, a living legend of the electro scene, will be in command of one of the key slots at this year’s festival. Known as being an uncannily versatile DJ and producer, Rother will be playing the last set of AR ’10. Choosing the right artist to close the night part of the festival this year was no easy feat. We knew that we had to have somebody really unique after Ricardo Villalobos’ and James Holden’s show stopping sets at the last two editions. After much discussion, we came to the conclusion that Anthony Rother would be the perfect choice, so we invited him to come perform as a DJ, not live, due to the timeframe he will be playing in, and despite the fact he will be dropping his latest album in July.
As far as the cherry on top is concerned, drum and bass fans will undoubtedly be very pleased to learn that apart from the already must see DnB line up at AR ’10, none other than Spor will be making the trek to Plock this year. Lifted, Subtitles, as well as Renegade Hardware are just some of the esteemed labels Jon Gooch has been releasing his oh so explosive music on. Known also for his unique crossover talents, Gooch has been responsible for a handful of records under his Feed Me moniker on labels run by Noisia and Deadmau5, making him one of the most exciting young producers at the moment. And his recently released remix of ‘On Melancholy Hill’ by the Gorillaz goes a long way in proving why.
All in all, several dozen foreign acts will be performing at Audioriver ’10. Add to that a slew of yet to be announced domestic talent, as well as the day time portion of the festival, and what you have is a not to be missed summer event located on a beautiful beach.
